Seminar in Helsinki in March kicks off NGVA Europe's new event strategy
úterý, 20. ledna 2015
In March 2015, NGVA Europe is bringing its expertise to Helsinki, Finland, for the association’s 2nd regional seminar called “L-CNG for Transport”. Held 17–18 March, the event will bring together key representatives from the European gas and transport industry as well as end users and delegates to exchange on natural and biogas mobility and its refuelling infrastructure in the Baltic Sea area.
Five sessions followed by discussion panels offer the chance to learn from over 30 high-level speakers, who will give insight into natural gas as a sustainable transport fuel and examine the Baltic area’s strategic role as the gate for the infrastructure development in northern Europe. The event follows up the association’s ‘LNG Workshop for trucks & ships’ held in Amsterdam in September 2012 and counts with the support of Gasum, the Finnish gas company owning most of the gas fuelling stations in the country. Many other important players such as Iveco/CNH, Scania, Skangass, Aga Gas, Shell and Westport have also confirmed their participation.
NGVA has chosen Helsinki for several good reasons. Finland is already forcing the implementation of the EU’s Directive on alternative fuels infrastructure and is on track to become one of the best examples in Europe when it comes to establishing natural gas a main fuel option for all transport modes. The country’s market for biomethane is already developed, as gas from renewable sources accounts for 35% of the gas used as a fuel. Moreover, in September 2014, the Finnish economic ministry announced to support the construction of four liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminals through €65 million in energy subsidies. Once completed, the terminals will double the potential for LNG use in the country.
More information on NGVA’s 2nd regional Seminar is available at the official website, including the possibility to register. Association members benefit from a substantial discount when participating. In addition, reduced fees apply for fleet-owners and representatives of educational institutions and the local community. Companies interested in acting as sponsor of the event, are invited to send an inquiry to discuss possibilities.
The Helsinki seminar kicks off NGVA Europe’s new event strategy that will organise three types of events per year:
- a regional seminar held in a different country every year, mainly targeting local industry and decision makers
- the association’s annual workshop & exhibitions aimed at the European & global industry, political decision makers and stakeholders
- a yearly event taking place in Brussels with the objective to strengthen ties between industry and European policy makers by means of relevant seminars and dialogues on hot topics.
The objective of the strategy is to offer additional opportunities for industry players, political decision makers and stakeholders to cross-link, in order to advance the market development of natural gas as a fuel in Europe.
Commenting on the initiative, NGVA Secretary General Lennart Pilskog said: “An orchestrated effort involving politics and industry is necessary, in order to effectively develop the European market. By ramping up event activities, NGVA Europe will provide valuable platforms for the transfer of know-how, which will help to strengthen ties among stakeholders and market players. The strategy will also help to further increase the European gas vehicle association’s presence on European and national level.”
